Ok y'all - I know there are some non-drag racers here that want to have fun, see what your can can really do and not break the bank (or the car) and autocross (or SOLO 2) is a great way to get started. Shorter course set up in large open areas (parking lots mainly) and not the speeds of a road course, but just as fun and challenging.

I am going to be running my Challenger this year with the SCCA Texas region club, not sure how many events just yet, but hopefully all the local events.

Here is a link to the current schedule of events: solo-events-calendar (http://texasscca.org/soloautocross/solo-events-calendar)

If anyone wants to join me, know more about autocross, PM me or check out this page: about-solo (http://texasscca.org/soloautocross/about-solo)

To find the class your car would be in check out the 2011 and draft of the 2012 SCCA rule book for your class with any mod's: SCCA SOLO2 Rules (http://www.scca.com/solo/content.cfm?cid=44517)

I'll be running in the "F Stock" class and should be competitive against the Mustang's, even in a mostly stock car.

I'm not an expert by any means, been away from it for a while, but I did run the last autocross of the season in November and took second out of 4 drivers.

I know you want to....

What mods can you have and stay in the Stock class? I have a CAI and exhaust work (resonator-delete)...

I considered soloing back when I had my Neon but never got on the "track".

The CAI takes you out of stock class. Have to have the stock air box. The exhaust from cat back is open. No problem there.

I bought and autocrossed a '96 neon ACR from 1996-2000 great car.

First event is March 11, at Pennington Field in Bedford (HEB Stadium) just about a week away. Which reminds me, I need to register on-line which means you do to if you want to come out (Not really, there will/should be walk ups allowed).

We need more LX's to represent!

Another brand new competition Hankook just came off the boat in California, but are twice the price of the Nitto's

There may be rain Sunday morning but they also said it was going to rain more today too, if anyone does come on Sunday to compete look at the FAQ page to prepare.

I agree - but gotta run by the rules. Someone last year requested a rules change to allow downsizing so the OEM 20" wheels could be swapped by a smaller size where race rubber is less expensive and more available. it was declined.

If I want to stay in stock - minimal mods - then gotta run 20's. In fact, adding a CAI will put you in street prepared. But a cat back is allowed. Jumping to street prepared is a lot more allowances, but to be competitive, need to add more mods and that's not realistic at this point. We'll see how this season go's. as in any motorsport - the more money you have now, the less you will have tomorrow! :Racing:

April 1 is the next event in Texas region (no location posted).

I got the same email

link to red river region page is so outdated - and looks to be under construction. are you closer to shreveport than bedford?

I'm not planning on any events outside the area this year, just won't have the time to travel - unless I am really competitive and think I can do ok in a divisional. But this is a learning year for me - been 10 years since I was running full time and that was in a FWD '96 Neon ACR (great car, the one to beat 1994-1999)

I may come around to watch some autocross. My car would need to be in a modified class and these heavy beasts need a lot more mods than I have to be precise on a small course.

I will stick to the road racing courses which beat the hell out of the cars and drivers as well as add some high speed risks and a chance to beat em with monster torque.

Hello fellow autocrossers -

Tomorrow is the first event of the 2012 autocross season! We're looking forward to a great day at Pennington Field.

Because it's the first event I thought it would be good to send out a few reminders:

Don't forget to set your clock ahead one hour tonight (Saturday), or you may miss the festivities. We have a few regulars who are famous for forgetting this, but I won't mention any names...
There's a lot of construction going on at Pennington field - please be patient and follow instructions of the event officials about where to park. Make sure to pass this message on to anyone you've got coming out to spectate or go for a ride.
Please double check the entry list to make sure your class and number are correct. The first event of the season is always a little crazy. If you find an error please let the registration folks know. No need to wait in the registration line - walk the course, get your car tech inspected, and then tell us.
Have fun!

Good news for tomorrow - We just received the OK to use the Bus Garage as the paddock space. Space is going to be a little tight because it's not as big as what we're used to, but much of the area is covered by a large carport structure. It should keep us dry until the rain lets up. The attached link shows a picture of the site and where we everything will be located.

Please remember our limited space when you're setting up and bear with us as it sems like the entire metroplex is under construction right now, including our event site...

It rained during my heat, but I was able to eek out first place out of 3 drivers. Despite the rain had a good time, but man those wheels and tires are heavy. I am so out of shape, guess I need to get back in the gym.

Next event is April 1 at TMS - in the parking lots not the track.

I'm not sure what class you'd fall into one of the ST Classes maybe, possibly ESP, you'd have look at the rules and region classes to be sure.

Their magnetic material that I had the nUmbers and letters routed out of, then I applied black vinyl onto them. That way he can pull em off to daily drive, and slap em on for racing on the weekends. We threw around the idea of removable vinyl decals, but this was way more time and cost efficient.

Just FYI on the font - we used the sophachrome font (sp?) for the numbers and letters, when Scott mocked them up in removable vinyl, the dimensions were perfect, but when they did the same size and had the magnetics cut out, they seemed a bit elongated - especially the letters

They barely fit on the doors and had to stack the F and S vertically

The removable mock up I did, was just a guess at the size, and when you gave me the size for numbers and letters, I never thought about how theyd fall width wise. I did the numbers and letters actually almost a half inch smaller due to the drop shadows, but I will make them however big you need them.
