I was talking with Mike at Quantum Perforamnce about some mods and he indicated that a cold air intake can cause engine damage if it's not tuned. My 09 chally came from the dealership with an intake. I called the dealership today and they stated all they did was bolt it on. The bad part is the pred tuner for the 09 isn't available yet. Any ideas?

I have never heard of that. It does not have to be tuned.

Theres no reason a Cold Air intake should have to be tuned. Ive been running mine since February (16,000+ miles) and there is nothing wrong. Its the same for everyone else I know that has a CAI.

It will not damage your engine without a tune. Don`t worry about it. You`re safe.

All it does is allow more and cooler air into the engine. How could that possibly hurt your engine?

No matter how much air volume the CAI can pull in, the car is only going to use as much of it as the current (even stock) tune on the car needs to maintain the proper burn ratio. By aftermarket tuning the car you can take advantage of higher volume of air but you certainly will not damage the car without a custom tune.
Here's a lame analogy. You are drinking milk from a bottle with a narrow neck and your brain realizes the speed at which the milk comes out of this bottle can not possibly overwhelm your body's ability to swallow it, so you can chug the whole bottle if you want (even though your chugging speed is restricted by the narrow bottle neck). Now drink the same milk out of a 2 gallon bucket. Your brain is NOT going to allow you to drown yourself by trying to swallow the whole 2 gallons by just dumping the bucket upside down over your mouth. You will only swallow as much as your BODY can handle in this instance and the rest just goes to waste.

To put it bluntly, thats bullsh!t!!
There is NO WAY in the world that a CAI can damage your engine.
May want to take these rebuttals and ask Mike specifically how a CAI can cause engine damage and see if he actually has proof or good explanation.

I've never heard or it either. I've had a cai, not on this car, and I never had any problems with it. That is pretty stupid. All it does is allow colder air from near your fender well to be drawn in. What harm could that do????

Is that cambodian breast milk???
No way ... you need a breast pump capable of at least 8psi for that ...
