Hey guys - sorry I have been so absent lately. New house, more work, escrow - need I say more?:kap:

From the get-go I had an intermittent problem with the driver's rear window. Seemed that sometimes it would work, others it would not. A swift fist to the switch sometimes worked - sometimes not. I took it to the dealer on more than one occasion and they could never get it to malfunction.

Well, now that my warranty is out (go figure) the window is totally inoperative. Nothing will budge it. It's not like the window is stuck, but like absolutely no power is going to the regulator or something. I pulled the rear switch out and tested it - seems to be fine. What can I do to fix this? I am broke as a joke so I would like to avoid a $500 dealer fix just for a window.

Thanks! :beerchug:

I would go to a different dealer and get a quote, then ask them what's wrong, then try to fix yourself.

or

trade it in and get a SRT8

Short of taking off the door panel and checking for power to the motor, I am not sure of a good way to isolate the problem.

Pull the panel and see if you get power to the motor when you push the switch. If you do, its the motor. If you dont, its a switch.

Ummm.... you have checked the window lockout switch right???
Sorry, but I have to ask.

I have to ask.

In the last 20 years I have seen many a "blonde moment".

Cars that wouldnt start (because they werent in park or neutral).
Cars that would only go in reverse (because the e-brake was set).

And once, a horn that would randomly honk.
Spent 3 hours trying to figure that one out before having the customer drive the car for me. It was her belly that was pressing against the horn button when she would lean over to change the radio or light a cigarette.

And yes, windows that wouldnt roll down because the lock out button was pressed by accident.

Thats like pilots making a writeup in the logbook "Radio does not work in O F F position"

take the switch pack from the passenger door and try it on the bad door. if it works its a bad switch. the connectors should be the same.

if it doesnt work maybe the motor or no power to the assembly.

I had the same issue in the magnum and the motor had to be replaced because of the contacts between the switch.

Thanks yall - some good ideas all. I did try the lockout switch but thats not it. Both the front and rear switches are dead. I guess I could try and take the door panel off, but I have had some horrific OMG accidents before when removing interior paneling. Any suggestions on how to get it off without hurting me or the car (car is #1 priority)?

Beandip - if the connections between the motor and switch were bad, is that something I could potentially fix? If it's a loose connector that would explain why it was an intermittent problem at first.

I dunno - seems like lately everything is going to pot:strokin:

if both front and rear switches are dead go check the fuses :)
might be something easy

I don't see why not. When the car was at the dealer they just replaced the whole damn thing. I never took a moment to look at the switch myself.

Well, I decided to do some more probing around yesterday. In the morning, I put the driver's rear switch back into the console - and magically the window worked. But, when I got in my car to go home in the afternoon, it did not.

I got home, and verified that the passenger rear switch worked and swapped them out - window did not operate. So now I know it's not the switch. Next I took my handy multimeter and checked what was hot and not in the harness. I am getting a constant 12v from the lower left pin, which means power is getting to the switch.

My powers of deduction appear to lead me in the direction that there is some type of interrupt after the switch and to the window motor. Somewhere power is not getting where it should. In order to do a more thorough job of looking I need to take the door panel off. Does anyone have advice on how to go about this?

Thanks to all!
