Ive been searching lxforums.com and I remember seeing a tread about different problems with auto stick. Well my question is. Isn't the transmission suppose to go back to 1rst gear when you stop at a red light. Of course while using auto stick. And while I'm shifting it goes 1,2,3,4,D. Wheres 5th gear? Sorry if this is a long stupid question. I just want to learn to use this!
Thanks guys and gals...

Without know what you drive (3.5, 5.7, 6.1) I'm a bit limited. I know in my R/T When shifting, the dash says 1,2,3,4,5. It only goes to D when I hold it for two seconds to the right after being in auto stick mode.

Unless the 2005 5.7's don't have the same set up as my 07' R/T, then I dont know why your not seeing 1,2,3,4,5.

Maybe it is just that years EVIC and the way it displays?

2005 model, right?
in autostick ..... D is 5th gear. and you have to "manually" shift to 1st when coming to a stop. otherwise, the car stays in the gear you put it in while driving (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, or D[5]). it doesn't display the number 5, but you can feel it shift from 4 to "5" when you autostick it to Drive. just try it ..... keep the car in 4th gear for a while and then shift it up to Drive ..... your RPM's will drop down and you'll be in 5th gear.
also, in Drive, autostick becomes automatic and the car will shift down or up automatically.

Yeah, sounds like a throw back to the way automatic transmission cars were built in the past (before digital displays). The only gear indicator you would have would be the physical pointer and it would normally be labeled P-R-D-2-1 (for a 3 speed automatic). Once they switched to fly-by-wire controls and digital displays they realized they could display it anyway they wanted.
So the question is: When you autostick from 4 to D are you now in full auto mode or are you still in stick mode?

you're in auto in "D" mode, but at high speeds, keeping it in 4th gear and then shifting it into "D" will move it to 5th gear, so it is there.

On the '05 RTs you see 1,2,3,4 and D unless you use a Superchips Flashpaq which would show a 5 instead of D when you chose one of the Performance Shift modes (not sure about the Predator). It's still the same 5th or overdrive gear. And yes, when you are slap-sticking you will need to manually downshift to first when you come to a stop or the tranny will stay in the last gear you selected unless you shifted into D before coming to a full stop. Once you have shifted to D you have effectively put the car back into Automatic trans mode. Any other gear it will hold that setting until you manually choose another one.

Yeah, what they said. My '07 3.5L Maggie is the same. Of course, I don't recommend downshifting to 1 at high speeds. Your car won't like you very much. Of course, I wasn't trying to downshift...

Thats weird for the Magnums. My 07 Charger R/T goes to 1st auto matically when in auto stick mode if I don't downshift when coning to a light.

Your tranny should stop you from down shifting too far when your revs are too high. I have been on the highway and as a test I tried to downshift and the tranny would not let me go below 3rd. It's like a built in safety feature to keep you from killing your tranny.

I was cruising at 65 one time on the highway and I had to get around a slow, beat-up, old truck, but someone was coming up fast in the left lane, so I down-shifted to 2nd, jumped in the left lane, flew by the truck, and the car coming up behind never had to slow down. I've never been able to get it to go into 1st, though.

All I can say is that it didn't prevent me. Of course I've not tried to do it again, but like Gonzo, I've dropped down into 2nd a few times for the extra *umpf*. Normally I kick it down to 3rd for a pass, and then quickly back up to 4th and D/5th.
The lurch and screech was enough to pucker up my butthole; I just knew I had killed the tranny. But we all know my car is special anyway. It does things it shouldn't do all the time.

Gonzo is exactly right. Thats how mine works nothing wrong with that. I would just like to know. If there's a software upgrade or what not so that it would be like the other models? It would be nice for it to go into first gear at a light... thanks

Yes, as far as downshifting goes, it will only go into a lower gear if the engine RPMs will stay below 5850 RPM for a Stock 5.7 ... With Raised shift points using a Flashpaq it will drop if the engine speed will stay below 6100 RPM.

I assume you are referring to just the Maggies.

I'm pretty sure it was the same for Mag, 300 and Charger 2005 RT's using a Flashpaq as far as the 6,100 rpm raised shift point setting goes. As far as being able to select a lower gear, the TCM and ECM talk to each other, if you are trying to shift into first and the engine RPMs would jump above 5,850 in stock trim, it would drop to second but would not go into first until you slow down enough for first to be engaged without exceeding the engine's rev limiter.

Then be careful with your downshifts ... hate to hear about something going kaboom ... lol.
