LED's draw a tiny amount of amperage, so wire size is not going to be an issue.
16 or 18 gauge wire will be sufficient..... dont use speaker wire.
You will need wire, a switch and a fuse holder (and fuse - 5A should be fine).
It should be a simple install - except for the removing of the fascia....

the simple answer is:
as close to the power source as possible.
The more detail answer is:
after you decide what you are going to use to power the LED's (battery, cig lighter, etc.) you will attach a wire to the power source straight to the fuse holder. Ideally you want the fuse holder within 6" of the power source.
The closer to the source the safer the circuit since there is a shorter length that is not fuse protected.
So it will go:
Power source, fuse, switch, lights, ground.

Sux cus these didnt come with instrouctions..... There are instructions in the group buy thread on chargerforumz. It is really easy! I think i used 16g wire when i did mine, but i am not 100% sure. When you take the panel off from under the dash there will be a connector on the left. Just tap into one of those that is hot and fuse it between your splice and the switch.

IF you are tapping in to a wire under the dash you need to be a little careful.
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use a test light on a wire that is wrapped in yellow or on a yellow connector - these are airbag harnesses - using a test light on them can set off the airbags.

that would bite
wanna make it clean neat and safe?
go to pep boys and pick up the 4 channel wireless remote.
mount it under the hood near the fuse box. Put an inline 5 amp fuse supplying power to the relay bank.
run that wire to the jump post under the hood
30 bucks and sweet

Thanks Pirate!!!
No one would tell me where to get the remote control for the lights.
Now I can ditch the switches!

just ask the oracle man, I can find almost anything
this is the kit
http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Performance-Lighting-PL-SW29-Wireless/dp/B000BRJF62
I had another brand it was not water proof. poof
we have this one in both cars holds up well to rain and car washes
Now if I could just figure out where Fred is buying his multi channel led sequencers life would be good LOL

ive done all of my lighting on my car and untill today havent bothered to use a fuse "i knew i needed one but just never got around to installing one, big mistake im lucky i still have my charger right now.
had a LED basically fry "this wire is cooked, just melted black plastic" it self from shorting out, melted the entire wire and stuck to all the other wires around it, luckily that was it only that LED is ruined everything else is ok, but it could have been a lot worse, i now have a fuse so i should be ok

wiser words never spoken
I cringe when I hear people splicing into the factory harness and not using a fuse
mine are fused on an isolated circuit and it still makes me nervous

there are other opinions I am sure
personally I would never go there. for reasons stated above
electrical fires in cars are bad..... seems the best thing to do is make sure you do everything in your power to reduce the possiblity

I cringe when I hear people splicing into the factory harness AT ALL - much less when it isnt fused.

9 Hours to install and you are risking it all to save the 15 minutes it takes to put in a fuse?!?!?!?

NEVER EVER add anything that draws power without adding circuit protection.. just plan stupid otherwise.
